Yoga Class Descriptions
*Students of all levels and from all tradtions are welcome to attend any of our public yoga classes.Mixed-Level Vinyasa Yoga
Indira and Chelsea teach slow-paced mindful vinyasas suitable even for those new to yoga while also providing a taste of challenge and chance to sweat for those students with a regular yoga practice. Our teaching is inspired by the people who show up from day to day and therefore you will never receive the same sequence twice. These classes are offerings from the heart.Back To The Basics
Our Back To The Basics class focuses on alignment and integrity across standing and seated asanas, twisting poses, and inversions. Blending conditioning movements with an exploration of how different muscle groups work together, this class offers in-depth posture breakdowns that have the capacity to transform your yoga practice. Open and interesting for all levels.Yoga Tranquilo
Mornings at Pavones Yoga Center with Yoga Tranquilo are set to infuse your body, mind, and spirit with Prana. This class is the perfect way to prepare for an hours-long surf session or ease into a weekend of relaxation. We can almost guarantee you won't find a single Warrior or Downward Dog in this one... A calming and gently guided floor sequence with a soft focus on the breath and Alu's melodic and happy affirmations deliver a natural calm to even the most tightly-wound mind and body.Yoga Fusion
A semi-vigorous vinyasa practice for the large muscles of the body and for the heart leads into a series of therapeutic
movement explorations that target the intrinsic muscles (those little muscles close to the skeleton) to release tension and re-pattern movement toward greater range of motion. Vinyasa yoga utilizes the synchronization of breath and movement to safely explore depth in postures and to calm the brain and nervous system. Some yoga experience is suggested but not required.
Candlelight Yoga
A healing practice drawing from the Yin Yoga tradition and blended with meditative vinyasa (flow) yoga. Yin Yoga emphasizes deep release with long holds which promote greater circulation of energy and create elasticity in the fascia and connective tissue. In this evening class asanas (postures) are often held longer to encourage a deeper let-go. Simple, fluid vinyasas softly weave the postures together. This candlelit class is a beautiful way to seal your weekend and works wonders on over-exerted surf muscles. All levels welcome.
Surfer's Therapeutic Yoga
Surfer's Therapeutic Yoga is designed with six hour Costa Rica surf sessions in mind. After a day in the water, your body craves rest ...and healing. This class will deliver. Combining deeply relaxing restorative yoga postures with hands-on, muscle-melting assists, plus joint-specific practices proven to improve range of motion, you won't ever want it to end.
Yoga En Español
This community class is a back-to-the-basics training in alignment, breathing, and developing non-judgmental awareness of sensation. Designed for beginning students, this class gives in-depth alignment principles, yogic breath, and meditation techniques, and some philosophy. It is taught in Spanish. All levels welcome. Yoga En Español cuesta 1.000 colones o por donación/intercambio. (Yoga En Español is taught in Spanish and priced so that local Costa Ricans can attend. The suggested donation price for this class is 1.000 colones but trade and barter are common forms of payment.)
Karma Yoga
Karma Yoga classes are offered in the spirit of creating sangha, or community. All proceeds collected are donated to reforestation projects in southern Costa Rica. Karma yoga classes are offered by recent graduates of our 200-hour yoga teacher training programs who give their time to our community. Karma yoga classes will focus mostly on hatha yoga postures and may also include elements from the yin yoga tradition, conditioning exercises, breath practice (pranayama), meditation and philosophy.
Open Studio
During Open Studio hours, we invite you into the Pavones Yoga Center studio for a time of self-inquiry and personal retreat. This is a great way to develop a personal practice: away from home and the easy distractions that arise there. Explore your yoga at this time, whether through meditation, asana practice, tai chi, pranayama, writing, or simply absorbing the energy of Pavones Yoga Center. We ask only that you respect the sacredness of the space by maintaining a conscious silence throughout your visit.
